Network Major Projects Manager in the University of Cambridge Computing Service

The University Computing Service (UCS) provides central academic Information Technology services and IT infrastructure for both the academic and administrative activities of the University of Cambridge. These services are crucial to the success and reputation of the University. The UCS is responsible for the development, delivery and support of core technology and systems (communication, storage, computers and corporate systems) to staff and students.

A data networking expert with extensive project and staff management experience is required for leading the following major projects:
  • The development of the University's data network to support the conversion of the University's analogue telephone network to Voice-over-IP;
  • The expansion of the University's data network by means of an injection of up to £1M of SRIF3 funding.
The successful candidate will lead the planning and implementation of these and other major projects, working as a deputy alongside the Network Systems Manager.

With a degree or equivalent qualification, the candidate will have a minimum of five years' recent experience in IP network service delivery and a minimum of five years' experience of team management. The candidate's technical knowledge and experience should be at least to the level required for CCIE certification.

This is a permanent appointment at the Senior Computer Officer grade, subject to nine months satisfactory probation period, on a salary scale of £45,417 to £47,978 (under review) with initial salary depending on experience.
